Skincare rituals for Vata season

Prepare your skin for the new season.

Did you know that when the seasons change, we should adapt our rituals and routines to maintain skin and overall health?

When we transition between seasons, especially from the high heat of summer to the colder winter months, we intentionally adapt our lifestyles to re-balance ourselves, emotionally, mentally and physically, so we can keep looking and feeling our best.

Ayurveda is based on the belief that the body, mind, and spirit are all interconnected and that true health and wellbeing is achieved when they are in balance.

One of the core philosophies in Ayurveda is the doshas. These are three energy types – Vata, Pitta, and Kapha – that have their own unique qualities and characteristics and govern all aspects of our body. Vata is the dosha of air and ether and is associated with lightness, dryness, and movement. Continue reading to learn how to prepare your skin for Vata season.

How do you know it’s time to transition to Vata season?

Vata season is the Autumn / Winter and early Spring months when the air is cool and dry. During Vata season our skin is more likely to become dry, flaky, rough and irritated because the air draws moisture out of our skin. Emotionally, we can feel more fear and anxiety during this season, so it is important to slow down, be kind to yourself and focus on replenishing self-care rituals. Shift your energy inward.

Ayurvedic skincare tips for Vata season

Here are our simple tips to keep your Ayurveda in balance and your skin glowing during these colder months.

1. Use a gentle cleanser

Use a gentle and non-stripping cleanser to rebalance and replenish dehydrated skin. Our Supreme Skin Cleansing Oil is a super nourishing formula that’s packed full of Vitamin C, antioxidants and essential fatty acids. Use the muslin cloth to steam the skin to activate the oils and soothe the mind.

2. Introduce a daily massage ritual.

Use our kansa dome tool for facial rejuvenation and lymphatic drainage massage. Boost circulation, remove toxins from the skin and ease anxiety and tension, allowing stress to melt away. Combine with the Supreme Skin Face Serum to illuminate and restore the skin.

3. Exfoliate regularly

For Vata season, it is important to exfoliate gently and regularly to remove dead skin cells so your skin can absorb the benefits of the nourishing oils. Exfoliate once or twice a week, depending on your skin's needs. Our Supreme Skin Exfoliant and Mask protects and enhances the skin’s appearance.

4. Use a body oil

Give yourself a deeply nourishing abhyanga massage with our Surrender Vata Body Oil. A nightly bath with healing salts and massaging with Surrender Vata Oil, will help release toxins, get energy flowing and relax an anxious mind.

5. Prioritise beauty sleep

Just as the air tends to be changeable, so do Vata sleep patterns. Give yourself plenty of time to prepare for a good night’s sleep and ensure your last meal is no less than 3 hours before sleeping. The Sleep Dharma Pillow Mist helps to induce a deep, harmonious dream state so you can wake feeling rested.

It’s also important to stay hydrated from within and drink hot water throughout the day and eat good fats. Learn more about Vata and diet in our articles.
