Symbolising new beginnings and the fertility of Spring, Holi is celebrated on the final day of winter. Put on your worn-out whites, make some eco-friendly coloured powders, add to a water bottle and sprinkle family and friends with colour, joy and happiness. Here we share our favourite eco-friendly way to make coloured powder for Holi festivities. Make natural food colouring without all the boiling, simmering, concentrating and fussing that comes with some other methods.
Measure a cup of your freeze dried fruit or vegetable in the colour you desire, into a blender or coffee grinder and pulse until you are left with a fine powder. Transfer to an air tight container where your powders will store for at least a year without refrigeration. You can then mix in a water bottle for Holi and use the remaining for baking sweet treats to share with friends.
